Our Mission

Vivipedia's purpose is to improve the welfare of animals in captivity and increase vivarium enthusiasts' access to expert care information. There's a lot of inaccurate and outdated information online - and Vivipedia's mission is to change that one page at a time. Articles on Vivipedia document the best practices used by experts across the world, and are constantly being reviewed and revised to keep up with evolving standards of care.

Our goal is to provide a single reliable source of vivarium information and to ensure animal welfare worldwide.

What is Vivipedia?

Vivipedia is a community-driven knowledge base created by and designed for vivarium enthusiasts. Information on Vivipedia is constantly updated by community experts to ensure animal care standards are always improving, and never become outdated.

Vivipedia was founded on the core belief that the collective knowledge of the vivarium community is both vast and deep.

Many websites that offer care information do so with the intent of selling you something. Their information is biased toward the products they sell - rather than the health of the animal.

Forums, Facebook Groups, and clubs can provide meaningful ways for community members to make friends and chat, but they aren't great for providing a single source of information that can be relied on. They're difficult to search, and often fall victim to excessive moderation and/or elite capture.

Information on Vivipedia is unbiased, and created and governed democratically - and it always will be.
