The Fantasy Pacman Frog (Ceratophrys hybrid) is a hybridization cross achieved in captivity by breeding a Cranwell's Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cranwelli) and a Surinam Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cornuta). This hybridization was first achieved by Philippe de Vosjoli and Bob Mailloux.[1]
There is no geographical distribution for this species as it does not exist in nature, it exists solely in captivity where they can reach an age of 15 years.
Appearance
C. hybrid more closely resembles the Surinam Horned Frog than Cranwell's Horned Frog, however there are some characteristics from C. cranwelli that persists. The Fantasy frog has a shorter eye horn, a grayish rather than black chin, and has a much wider range of coloration that it inherits from the C. cranwelli parentage.
Males average approximately 3in whereas females tend to skew towards 4in.[1]
Reproduction
There has not been a verified report of a Fantasy Pacman breeding. Similar to most hybrids Fantasies are sterile.[1]
