A hygrometer is a device used to measure relative humidity.
In a vivarium, a hygrometer may be used to monitor humidity levels inside an enclosure.
These devices come in both analog and digital formats - the main differences being the mechanisms by which humidity is measured and displayed
Most retail hygrometers lose accuracy or malfunction when left in high humidity (70%+) environments for long periods of time - or when they come into direct contact with water.
A hygrometer may give an inaccurate reading if there are water droplets on the sensor.
For best results:
- Store the hygrometer outside of the enclosure to ensure accuracy and longevity.
- Use the hygrometer to take a reading, then remove it from the enclosure.
- Avoid misting or spraying water directly onto the hygrometer.
