- Fruit fly culture mix
- Fruit fly culture cups with mesh lids
- Excelsior
- Fruit fly culture that is currently producing (Drosophila melanogaster or Drosophila hydei)
Directions[edit | edit source]
- Buy fly culture mix (I.e., Repashy Superfly, FrogDaddy Premium Fruit Fly Media), fly culture cups with mesh lids, Excelsior, and a producing fruit fly culture.
- Add media mix to an empty culture cup, per media instructions.
- Mix with boiling water per media instructions. Let cool 1-2 hours.
- Add a handful of Excelsior.
- Add 50-100 fruit flies from the producing mix.
- Wait 2 weeks if melanogaster, 3-4 weeks if hydei before you begin using culture for feeding.
