  • Fruit fly culture mix
  • Fruit fly culture cups with mesh lids
  • Excelsior
  • Fruit fly culture that is currently producing (Drosophila melanogaster or Drosophila hydei)

Directions[edit | edit source]

  1. Buy fly culture mix (I.e., Repashy Superfly, FrogDaddy Premium Fruit Fly Media), fly culture cups with mesh lids, Excelsior, and a producing fruit fly culture.
  2. Add media mix to an empty culture cup, per media instructions.
  3. Mix with boiling water per media instructions. Let cool 1-2 hours.
  4. Add a handful of Excelsior.
  5. Add 50-100 fruit flies from the producing mix.
  6. Wait 2 weeks if melanogaster, 3-4 weeks if hydei before you begin using culture for feeding.
