The Fantasy Pacman Frog (Ceratophrys hybrid) is a hybrid of Cranwell's Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cranwelli) and the Surinam Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cornuta). This hybridization was first achieved by Philippe de Vosjoli and Bob Mailloux.[1]
There is no geographical distribution for this species as it does not exist in nature, it exists solely in captivity where they can reach an age of 15 years.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
This Ceratophrys hybrid more closely resembles the Surinam Horned Frog than Cranwell's Horned Frog, however there are some characteristics from C. cranwelli that persist. The Fantasy frog has a shorter eye horn, a grayish rather than black chin, and has a much wider range of coloration that it inherits from the C. cranwelli parentage.
Males average approximately 3 inches in length whereas females are slightly larger at 4 inches.[1]
Reproduction[edit | edit source]
There has not been a verified report of a Fantasy Pacman breeding. Similar to most hybrids Fantasies are sterile.[1]
